M20
M20 The Trifid Nebula.
This is an unusual combination of a side by side pair of nebula, one is
red, one is blue. With the white stars in the background, I
suppose that I should have taken this shot on July 4th, but it was
actually June 12, 2004. It was taken late in the night and
under
only fair skies, which is evident in the low contrast. The
distance to this gaseous emission nebula is uncertian, estimates range
from 2,200 light years to 9000 light years away.
